July 2020

Hi Time of Your Lifers and Parents/Carers!

This is the letter we were hoping we’d never have to write. We’re very sorry to bring you the awful news that TTOYL can’t happen this year.

We are writing to you because you were at TTOYL last year, so we wanted you to know first before you read it on social media or hear it from anyone else.

We were hoping until very recently that there might be a possibility that TTOYL could go ahead. That’s why we’ve left making a final decision until now.

Sadly, although many lockdown restrictions have been lifted, there are still some key ones that haven’t, like …

  • You’re not allowed to “stay overnight away from your home with members of more than 2 households”
  • You can “only gather indoors in groups of no more than 2 households”
  • You can “only gather outdoors in either a group of up to 6 people from different households or up to 2 households”
  • You can “only gather in larger groups of up to 30 for major life events, such as weddings” (although, in our opinion, TTOYL clearly is a major life event!)

TTOYL just wouldn’t be the same if we all had to keep one metre apart. How could we travel by coach or minibus together? And singing wouldn’t be allowed (like at weddings and funerals) because that spreads “droplets”. And there would definitely be people from more than 2 households sleeping together in bedrooms.

We guess many of you were probably expecting this news. But it’s still horrible to have to break it to you officially. And we know it will be horrible for you to read it.

So, what can we do instead? The 5 of us are working hard to put some plans together for TTOYL week. We’ve already got some ideas. Chris has invented a brilliant game we can play in a local park called “The Battle of the Bubbles!”

It may be that more lockdown restrictions are lifted over the summer. If so and if we’re allowed, we’ll rush frantically to arrange some trips and some great events. And of course, we’ll let you know just as soon as plans are made. Please be thinking of activities we could do.

Don’t miss our Zoom meeting next Friday (July 17th) at 7.00pm! We’d love you to be part of it. We thought it would be great to have a bit of a catch-up, give you the opportunity to say how you feel about the TTOYL decision, and hear any suggestions you have for activities later in the summer. Please use this link to book in for this time together: ttoyl.co.uk/2020zoom.

Please now show this letter to your parent/carer so they too know why there’s no TTOYL this year.

All the best to you and your family,

Chris & Debbie, Alan & Tina, & Connor (TTOYL Leadership Team)
